Simon is currently the Associate Director of Nursing across five clinical specialties including Children’s Services, Outpatients, Pathology, Radiology and Pharmacy.

Simon accepts instructions in relation to standards of nursing practice in hospitals, including acute surgical wards, accident and emergency, clinical environments, adult critical care, falls and pressure management.

Simon has extensive experience of clinical incident investigation, overseeing weekly clinical incident panels reviewing standards of care across ward and clinical environments, as well as medication related incidents. He has vast involvement in complaints from patients, relatives, enquiries via legal teams and MP’s offices, regularly reviewing detailed documentation and meeting with complainants and legal parties to come to an initial view, amending and signing off complaints prior to any necessary escalation.

Simon has a detailed understanding of standards of practice, having developed clinical care standard operating procedures. Simon is trained in Patient Safety Incident Response Framework, with experience of report writing and presenting robust, reasoned opinions. He has a detailed understanding of standards of practice that should be adhered to, the implementation of learning outcomes and undertakes necessary amendments to policies in the event best practice has not been adhered to.

Simon has experience of legal proceedings, having presented evidence at both the NMC and the Coroner’s Court. He has undergone medico-legal training pursuant to the Civil Procedure Rules and has detailed knowledge of the legal principles underpinning liability claims.
