AMANDA FLETCHER

Midwifery

Amanda has worked as a nurse and midwife in the NHS for over 30 years and has extensive experience in a variety of settings, including intensive care, midwifery and Practice Nursing.  Amanda is currently a Lead Nurse responsible for Practice Nurses and support workers over 11 GP surgeries. She specialises in midwifery and has undertaken senior matron roles in specialist maternity teams.  She has also been responsible for developing an Enhanced Midwifery Team, who care for vulnerable adults, to establish a case-holding model, enabling continuity of care through the childbirth continuum. Amanda was pivotal in developing and teaching the PROMPT training of the Better Births NHS Scheme of 2016, which increases safety for women and babies and is delivered to Midwives, Obstetricians and theatre nurses. During her career Amanda has also been tasked with managing conflict resolution, in doing so she ensured Trust values and behaviours were adhered to and has had to instigate investigation proceedings into staff members where necessary, with guidance from the Head of Midwifery and Human Resources. Amanda understands that it is vital to be fair, consistent, empathetic, and professional, as well as providing safe and high-quality care which makes her an outstanding expert in the areas of breach of duty and liability.

It is Amanda’s experience as a clinical leader in her field and achievements in delivering organisational objectives and high-quality care that makes her an outstanding expert in the areas of breach of duty and liability.  Amanda accepts instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors to review clinical negligence cases and to identify any midwifery breach of duty.  Amanda’s areas of specialist interest include general midwifery care, birth injuries, episiotomy and perineal repairs, neonatal resuscitation and obstetric emergencies. Amanda has represented the Trust at Coroner’s Court and also at an Employment Tribunal.  Amanda is compliant with all CPD training provided by our in-house lawyers in respect of her role and duties as a Part 35 expert witness and understands the competencies required of her.  She is very experienced in presenting a clear rationale for her opinion and is robust when presenting verbal evidence in conferences and Joint Discussions.
