Rachel Pegrum

Social Worker

Rachel started her journey into the care sector working in residential care settings for older people and on inpatient mental health units as a health care assistant. After qualifying as a Social Worker, she worked in a Local Authority for 15 years assisting a wide cross section of society including the elderly and people suffering with physical disabilities, sensory loss or impairments, addicts and those struggling with both organic and functional mental health conditions.

Whilst working for the Local Authority in 2014 she acted as the Safeguarding Adult Lead for the implementation of the Care Act with a focus on learning and development across integrated care systems including the police and primary care sectors. Rachel then returned to front line services as a Team Manager for a large locality team.

In 2020, Rachel joined a newly formed Government Department, the Joint Biosecurity Centre (now the UK Health Security Agency) to work alongside Public Health England in managing the response to the Covid-19 pandemic and in 2021 merged her Social Care background into this role working as Head of Regional Assurance for Adult Social Care. In this position she acted as a conduit between the Social Care Sector and the Department of Health and Social Care, managing all things Covid-19, with a focus on outbreaks, workforce and vaccinations.

Rachel also has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the assessment process for any services listed under the Care Act 2014 for both working and older age adults, in regard to strategic reviews of service delivery and integrated systems.
