Martie Hancock

Occupational Therapist

Martie is an experienced occupational therapist with extensive clinical and case management experience within the NHS and independent sector both in the UK and abroad. After qualifying in 2000 in South Africa, Martie worked in paediatrics. Following a move to the UK in 2001, she worked in the NHS and Social Care Services in the areas of orthopaedics, care of the elderly, hand therapy, amputee rehabilitation, trauma services and general medicine, which included women's health and cardiology.

 

Since 2011, Martie has worked as a case manager and expert witness. She has extensive experience in providing complex case management for adults and children who have sustained catastrophic or life changing injuries including birth injuries, traumatic brain injuries, cauda equina syndrome, and complex orthopaedic injuries including limb loss. She has worked under single and joint instruction on a number of cases and has experience in working with deputies pre and post settlement. She is skilled at working with other professionals and services to ensure the best outcomes for her clients. She is experienced at setting up and managing private care packages, including independent living trials, and managing large and specialist rehabilitation programmes. She has an in-depth working knowledge of statutory funding streams and their eligibility criteria.

 

Martie has undertaken comprehensive legal training and has a solid understanding of her duties to the Court pursuant to CPR Part 35 and understands the competencies required of her. She is very experienced in presenting a clear rationale for her opinion and is robust when presenting verbal and written evidence.

  • Master’s degree (MA) in Design Research for Disability;

  • NSIC Long Service Awards, 12.5 years. 2018;

  • Qualified and experienced moving and handling trainer;

  • FJ Ltd Expert Witness Training Programme.
